From defensive steel to blunt attacking force, and a with a layer of pure midfield silk in between, Newcastle Uniteds 10 signings in 12 months under new ownership have covered most bases.
But what have been the best and the least effective of Eddie Howes incoming transfers in 2022? Here, saving the best until last, we rank Howes signings so far.
Most Newcastle fans will hope to never know how good or not so good a signing the former Liverpool goalkeeper might be.
Karius joined the Magpies joined the Magpies last month on a deal until January as cover for injured United 2 Karl Darlow, after being released by the Reds.
The German had not played for Liverpool since 2018, and has most recently been on loan at Besiktas and Union Berlin.
But with Nick Pope having shone in his first few months on Tyneside, never mind memories of Karius infamous howler for Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League final still lingering, the hope is that a man Howe describes as he is a very good goalkeeper with Premier League and European experience never makes it off the bench.
The second player yet to make an appearance for the Magpies is the highly-rated Egyptian-born Aussie teenager who confirmed his transfer last week.
Set to link up with Newcastle in January, the 18-year-old made his senior debut for his national side in September. Kuol clearly has burning pace, and his former Central Coast Mariners head coach Nick Montgomery backs him to thrive in the North East.
But until we see him in the flesh, and in the pressure cooker of the Premier League, Kuol must be regarded as an unknown quantity.
Wood signed for Newcastle United in January 2022 for 25 million, after his Burnley release clause was triggered. But while he was one of several signings in the first transfer window of Uniteds new era, he is the one who has struggled to justify his huge price tag.
Bought as a replacement for the injured Callum Wilson, Wood provided an attacking focal point for United as their revival in the second half of last season gathered pace.
But with both his movement and goal threat three in 25 appearances is a seriously modest return - limited, he is now undoubtedly Newcastles third- choice strike option behind Wilson and record signing Alexander Isak.
The left-back made his move to the North East permanent in the summer from Aston Villa after seriously impressing on loan last season.
Targett was rock solid following his arrival in January, and provided some important contributions higher up the pitch as Newcastle stormed up the Premier League table.
But this season has been more stop-start for him, with Dan Burn having seemingly edged ahead of him in the battle for regular selection.
The Swedish striker arrived for a club record fee of 63 million late in the summer window, but hit the ground running.
A goal on debut at Liverpool, with only a controversial VAR decision denying him another at Anfield, was followed by a well-taken penalty against Bournemouth.
But while the Swedes huge promise is obvious looked like he was still fully coming to terms with the physicality and pace of the Premier League ahead of picking up his current injury.
The young centre-half eventually joined the Magpies in the summer after Howe attempted to sign him in January. And the Dutchman has looked excellent almost throughout his every appearance so far this season.
The only surprise is that Howe has not yet made him a mainstay of his starting XI, with Botman having had to compete with Burn for a starting spot.
But his physicality, poise and passing ability will surely soon see the former Lille player establish himself as a first choice, and a star for years to come.
Since joining the Magpies from Burnley in the summer, Pope has exceeded expectations by being arguably Newcastles most consistent performer this season.
After eight games he has an impressive 79.5% save percentage, the highest in the Premier League. Pope is far from the most comfortable keeper with the ball at his feet, but he has more than compensated for that with his shot-stopping ability, command of crosses and high starting position.
Despite Popes blunder in his most recent England outing, he will be very much in Gareth Southgates plans for Qatar if he keeps up his excellent club form.
Just pipping Nick Pope into the top three spots is Blyth-born reliable defender Burn, who has offered United surprising value on the seemingly hefty 13.5m they paid Brighton for him in January.
The centre-half has the second most clearances of any outfield player in the Premier League this season, just behind Liverpools Joel Matip.
That comes after Burn produced consistently solid performances as Howes team climbed well clear of relegation trouble last season.
It is clear that every time Burn dons the black and white stripes that he bleeds his beloved black and white, and he has played in all eight of Newcastles league games this season, whether at left-back or centre-back.
Second on our list, but arguably vying for the very top spot, is England international Trippier, who was Howes first signing.
Trippier has been excellent every time he has donned the Newcastle shirt since his arrival from Atletico Madrid. In 16 appearances for the club, he has emphasised his incredible dead-ball ability with three goals, been defensively sound and has proved a natural leader, captaining United in every game this season. Pure class.
Edging Trippier for our top spot is the Brazilian international whose reward for snubbing the likes of Arsenal to join the Magpies in January has been almost immediate folk hero status.
Even at a reported fee of around 39.7 million, the 24-year-old looks like one of the best value signings seen in the Premier League in recent years.
Having made 23 appearances since his arrival, Bruno was initially compared to but has since surpassed Yohan Cabaye as Newcastles best midfielder of the last decade.
With his intuitive knowledge of space and his vision, Bruno is able to dictate the play from the middle of the park with ease.
Although he is arguably yet to fully kick on in recent weeks, with injury and the absence of midfield partner Jonjo Shelvey perhaps holding him back, Bruno is still performing well. And no player has encapsulated the new feelgood factor at St Jamess Park more than the ever-smiling Brazilian.
