In the words of Newcastle Uniteds new Chief Commercial Officer Peter Silverstone, the Magpies are on a exciting and ambitious journey to grow the clubs global reach and fanbase. Silverstone, who arrived at the club earlier this season, has already signed off on two deals this week as Newcastle look to increase their commercial revenue.

Drink company Monster Energy will now enjoy a digital presence around St James Park, while Saudi Arabias national airline, SAUDIA, will be the clubs Official Tour Airline Partner when the first-team travels to Riyadh in December.

More Saudi-based partnerships are expected to materialise in the near future with the shirt sponsor a big talking point among fans for the 2023/24 season and beyond. Silverstones comments this week suggest the club aim to expand their following in Saudi Arabia to become the most supportedPremier Leagueteam in the Gulf state as one of their priorities.

WhilstNewcastle Unitedis on an exciting and ambitious journey to grow our global reach and fanbase, we are also very focussed on growing our fan base and following in Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Middle East, Silverstone said after the SAUDIA deal was announced.

Our ambition is to become the most supported English Premier League football team in Saudi Arabia; a country whose population includes a large, young, passionate and highly engaged football community.

Premier League clubs seeking to expand their global presence is nothing new. A host of top flight sides have adorned foreign companies on their football shirts for many years. A host of English and European sides are now sponsored by the big three Middle East airlines.

Manchester City are sponsored by Etihad Airways, while PSG, AS Roma and Bayern Munich are backed by Qatar Airways. Real Madrid, Arsenal, AC Milan, and Benfica all have the Emirates logo on their shirts.

Even Newcastles deal with Fun88, a Chinese gambling operator, back in 2017 was struck to enhance the respective global profiles of both parties, in the words of Lee Charnley.Chronicle Liveunderstands Newcastle have already agreed to end their partnership with Fun88 early and further talks are planned with kit manufacturers Castore in the future.
